The SECRET & the “BUZZ” By John Maerz BA, LMT Hot off the metaphysical griddle is a new “Buzz.” The “Secret” has fueled a brand new movement in consciousness influencing our choice of perspective and attitude. The promise is that we can have or be whatever we want. At first glance this appears to look great; the answer to feeling out of control relative to our environment and our survival. But a deeper look is necessary to understand the effectiveness of what is appealing to our motivations. These approaches appear to be all externally motivated. The underlying assumption is that through their "tutorage" we will make the world the way we want, have what we want and control what and who we want. Yet, this part is unspoken. The world of "The Secret" has been blown way out of proportion and been taken far out of context. Don't get me wrong. The basic principles they espouse are part of the larger group laws but there are many other factors involved. The implication is that we can have or be whatever we want. Nice dream but what if another’s personal reality is in the way of ours manifesting? What if their wish is contrary to ours? The underlying principles are effective but well buried under the "buzz" of the promise and the repression that’s needed to sustain it. Additionally, the newest principle, "Law of Allowing," is just another hidden way of saying, "I’m open to get." Yet, even a broken clock is right twice a day. With other laws it IS effective but it’s not that simple. In addition to allowing joy we must also allow its polar opposite: pain. “Allow ourselves” to forget the other half of the equation becomes an “Inconvenient Truth.” Many of these approaches are fueled by greed...those promoting the “systems” are cloaked and ours is repressed. What about the "inner" work? What about controlling ourselves? If you doubt what I say then ask yourself this question. What part of yourself is it that asks for your desired manifestation? Is it your soul? Is it your ego? Is it your fear? Is it your family inculcation of "values?" Think VERY carefully on this one. Creating an outer peaceful world is a great excuse for not having to face our own shadow and our demons. One more thing; if we follow someone else "our path" is lost. Our path is our dharma. It is the natural flow that our essence needs to travel to unite our animal nature with our spirit. The popular "go to the light" is an avoidance of dealing with our selfish, survival oriented animal nature which we are taught to be embarrassed by. There is nothing wrong with our animal nature. It is part of life. It must be acknowledged and included in the final "product" of who we are becoming or we will be of no use to ourselves or the world except as a good example of evolution gone wrong. Well readers, I've either insulted you or shown you a new perspective. If I've popped your balloon I apologize for hurting your feelings but this "Secret" thing is no different than following your "Guru" in the sixties, becoming a "Shaman" in the seventies and eighties and mushing with your "Angels" in the nineties and two thousands. OUR own truth will set us free. |
